Criteria for successful completion of the program are:

Academic: A minimum grade of 75% or better must be maintained each subject.

Clinical: Student must achieve at least 75% in each of the following clinical competencies in order to satisfy graduation requirements. Each student will again be evaluated by means of clinical competencies. The clinical competencies will be administered after the student has completed the didactic, clinical, and laboratory experience in each subject.

• Abdomen
• Superficial structures
• Non-cardiac chest
• Obstetrics
• Non-gravid and gravid pelvis: transabdominal and Endovaginal
• Vascular: extracranial cerebrovascular, intracranial, extremity arterial(upper and lower), extremity venous (upper, lower) and abdominal.

Echocardiography Ultrasound Specialty: Western Suffolk BOCES is committed to upholding the standards of the profession. We aspire to instill in our students an obligation to the profession of Sonography by requiring that they commit to become registered in at least one Ultrasound specialty of their choice (which involves passing the specialty exam and the corresponding physics exam) upon graduation. The approximate cost for each registry exam is $250, therefore, it will cost $450 to become registered in one specialty.

Financial: Satisfaction of all financial obligations.

Attendance:

• The maximum time frame for course completion cannot exceed one and one-half times the course length (36 months).
• Fulfillment of program attendance requirements

Students withdrawing from the program must submit a letter to the Program Director. Upon receipt of a letter, a change of status will be instituted. A refund will be awarded according to the established refund policy only after the student ID badge has been turned into the Program Director.

BOCES does not accept credit(s) from other educational institutions. All BOCES programs must be successfully completed in entirety to obtain a certificate of completion.

The School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography requires that students attend all classes and clinical days. Students are responsible for all material discussed in class and all assignments given. The policy regarding sick and vacation days is as follows:

• Each student is allowed a maximum of 33.5 hours in Junior year and 36 hours in Senior year of excused absences which cannot be carried over to the next academic year. If a student reaches 19.5 hours of absence in Junior year and 21 hours of absence in Senior year, a warning letter will be issued. If a student reaches 26 hours of absence in Junior year and 28 hours of absence in Senior year, the student will be placed on probation. If a student exceeds the maximum number of hours allowed in either of the years, he/she will be immediately dismissed from the program.
• Any lateness or leaving early will be charged quarter hourly ex. 10 minutes will be charged as 15 minutes and 20 minutes will be charged as half an hour. Further recurrences and the student will be assigned mandatory make-up, or face possible dismissal from the program.
