Admission: Radiologic Technology

Admission Criteria

The School of Radiologic Technology reserves the right to deny admission based upon failure to complete all admission requirements.

Admission Process

Completed applications must be submitted by March 1 for the upcoming September class.

Take the pre-entrance exam (TEAS) that tests essential academic skills. .  Select Western Suffolk BOCES as the receiving institution. Follow up by calling the Radiologic Technology office (631-261-3721 x245) to confirm your results have been received. A score of 50.0% or higher is required in each section to continue the application process. Please note: The TEAS exam may be taken once a semester (90 days) for a total of two times to be considered for admission.

  1. Your TEAS exam results will be reviewed by Western Suffolk BOCES and you will be notified if you qualify for admission. Once notified, you may begin the application process listed below. Please contact the Health Careers Office to confirm that your TEAS score hsa been received. An application will be sent to you if you qualify.
  2. Request official high school and college transcripts – Official Transcripts must be sent directly to the Radiologic Technology Office:

  3. References:
    a. Two (2) Academic/Business References (supervisor level or higher preferred–please no relatives or friends). Academic/Business Reference Forms will be included in the application package.
    b. One (1) Personal Reference. The Personal Reference Form will be included in the application package.
  4. Recommendation Letter:
    a. One (1) Academic and/or Professional Recommendation Letter (please no relatives or friends). The Academic and/or Professional Reference Forms will be included in the application package.
  5. Complete and return the application for the Western Suffolk BOCES Radiologic Technology program (included in the application package).
    a. The completed application may be emailed to admissions@wsboces.org or mailed to: Western Suffolk BOCES – School of Radiologic Technology 152 Laurel Hill Rd. Northport, NY 11768. Applications sent via email must be scanned; no screenshots will be accepted. Western Suffolk BOCES is not responsible for applications lost in the mail.
    b. Call 631-261-3721 x245 for confirm your application has been received.
    c. An Application Fee of $100 (non-refundable) is required.
    Payment options are credit card (contact the Bursar’s Office at 631-262-3721 x314) or certified check or money order payable to Western Suffolk BOCES. No personal checks will be accepted.
  6. Applicants will be contacted by May 1 to schedule an interview.

*Reminder: References, recommendation, high school and college transcripts must be sent directly to the Radiologic Technology Office by issuer.

Admission is not guaranteed. Acceptance, Alternate and Denial letters are usually sent by late June or early July.

Admission Requirements

    • Minimum of 18 years of age
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Associate Degree from an accredited school, preferably including the following courses:
      • Anatomy & Physiology I & II
      • General Psychology
      • English Composition
      • College Math or above
      • Physics for Health Careers
    • Minimum college GPA of C or better (≥ 2.0)
    • 50% or higher score on the pre-entrance (TEAS) exam (this does not guarantee acceptance into the program)

Technical Standards

Good physical health:

      • Manual dexterity in gross and fine movements
      • Flexibility
      • Strength: ability to lift items weighing up to 25 pounds, ability to assist in movement of patients)
      • Stamina: ability to stand for extended periods of time
      • Effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills
